In what has to be one of the most gruesome murders in recent times, a suspected cannibal, Alexey Yastrebov, 35, killed a mother of two, cut out her heart and then cooked it to eat.
The victim, Ekaterina Nikiforova, 27, was stabbed in the neck before her Adam’s apple was then cut out.
According to police, Yastrebov gouged out her heart and left lung, and cooked them on the stove and then called the flat’s owner Zhanna Avdeeva, 31, delivering a chilling message.
“Call the police and ambulance.
“I’m lying in the blood, next to me is a corpse.” he said.
On the arrrival of the paramedics, he calmly told them, “There’s a heart cooking on the stove.”
He chilled the police with his confession where he said; “I told her I would eat her heart. So I did.”
According to police, he had tried to kill himself before calling Avdeeva by plunging scissors into his neck, but had been unsuccessful.
Yastrebov is now in the ICU under police guard.
Avdeeva terrified by the incident said; “This poor woman was lying in the same room,”
“As well as her chest cut open, her neck was slashed.
“He had cut out her Adam’s apple. I couldn’t look at all this.”
The victim, a single mother, had two daughters aged seven and three.
A close friend of the alleged cannibal, Evgeny Avdeev, 31, Zhanna’s brother, said the he could never imagine he could do something so “evil”.
“My hair is standing on end,” he said.
“I think they must have been drinking and some conflict happened.”
As for Avdeeva, she said she would have to call a priest to “cleanse” the flat after the evil killing.
“It’s such a shock to me, in my apartment, “ she said.
“It’s like a nightmare. Everyone will know about this, all the neighbours. How will I go on?”
“I will invite a priest to say prayers here after the discovery of this corpse.”
