A salesgirl at Shoprite stores, Lagos branch identified as Mariam Mufutau, has been arrested for allegedly stealing the sum of N553,956,000 from the store.
The salesgirl was arraigned before the Lagos Magistrate Court after the management of the store located in Eti-Osa reported the case of theft to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Ilasan Division, Lekki, Eti-Osa, SP Onyinye Onwuamaegbu.
The police upon investigating the case which was reported found the culprit out and ordered her arrest.
During investigation into the matter carried out by Orukotan Lonikola which was conducted on the orders of the Inspector, the accused could not give account of the money she allegedly stole.
She was thereafter arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony to wit and stealing.
The Stores management reported that it discovered the fraud case while it was auditing its accounts as the salesgirl was alleged to have committed the offence between 1 April and 31 May, 2017.
