Samsung announces Exynos 990 for S11 with 5G support

Samsung announced its new Exynos 990 processor yesterday which will power the S11 device scheduled for release in 2020 which will be paired with the 5G enabled Exynos Modem 5123 which suggests that Samsung may be bringing the power of 5G to their devices next year.

The company announced as part of its S10 series the Galaxy S10 5G as the only phone with 5G support but we can safely assume that the full line of S11 would be 5G enabled.

The Exynos 990 is a big improvement over the current processor in the S10 series with 4K UHD display, 108MP camera, 8K video recording and a 20% increase in CPU and graphical performance.

According to Techradar, The new Exynos 990 is a 7nm EUV octa-core chipset in a tri-cluster format, it has dual two M5 Exynos cores which is 20% faster than the M4 cores on the Exynos 9820. Two Cortex A77 and four A55 for that extra performance giving it an acclaimed 13 % overall improvement.

The Exynos 990 uses Arm Mali-G77 to handle graphics which implements a modern Valhall architecture, which promises a 20% increase in performance efficiency Exynos 990 is amongst the first chipsets to employ the new Arm GPU.

Unlike most of Samsung’s devices which often aren’t gaming efficient, the Exynos 990 is a breath of fresh air for gamers. Gaming on the Exynos promises a breeze with the 120Hz refresh rate that Samsung is implementing in the chipset. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL boasts refresh rate of up to 90Hz, Samsung is set to break that record with the Exynos 990.
