Sanitary violations found at all Kebab Shops inspected in Moscow

Sanitary violations were uncovered at all of more than 250 Doner Kebab Sandwich Shops checked in a recent snap inspection in Moscow, Authorities said on Wednesday.

The violations ranged from E coli bacteria found on servers’ hands to a lack of running water for personal hygiene, as well as expired food, and meat of unknown origin, the consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor said in a statement.

“Personnel did not have a basic understanding of sanitary culture,’’ the statement said, explaining that the inspections were conducted after customer complaints.

More than 110 of the kebab shops have been temporarily shuttered by the authorities while the violations are addressed, the statement said.

Earlier this year more than 180 people sought medical attention in the eastern Siberian region of Tuva after eating tainted chicken sold in kebabs, a spokesperson for the Health Ministry said at the time.

Everyone recovered, she said by phone. She advised against eating fast food, saying: “People should eat healthy’’.
