Sanusi May Lose His Crown As Court Affirms Ganduje’s Power To Dethrone Emirs

It is no secret what rift exists between the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi and the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The High Court in Kano has on Tuesday denied the application seeking an interim order to stop Governor Abdullahi Ganduje from interfering with the Kano emirate Kingmakers.

Justice A. T. Badamosi made this order in the ruling in suit no k/197/2019 filed by the Kingmakers of Kano State.

One of the implications of the ruling on Tuesday is that governor Ganduje is now vested with powers under the new ‘Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019 which includes the power to dethrone any Emir found violating any of the provisions of the law.

It is being speculated that Ganduje may take advance of these powers as a tool to dethrone the Sanusi owing to the discord between them.
