Saudi King appoints Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman as Prime Minister

The Saudi Gazette reports that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman appointed Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman as Saudi Arabia’s prime minister by royal decree on Tuesday.

According to a Royal Decree, the King will preside over the Cabinet’s weekly meeting, which he attends.

The report states that the appointment of the Crown Prince was made with a waiver of the provisions of Article 56 of the Basic Law of Governance and the pertinent clauses in the Law of the Council of Ministers for Saudi Arabia.

The King also restructured the Council of Ministers, which is to be presided over by the Crown Prince, in another royal decree.

Prince Khalid Bin Salman was also appointed defense minister by a royal decree that King Salman also issued. The new minister of education has been named Yousef Bin Abdullah Al-Benyan.

Talal Bin Abdullah Al-Otaibi was appointed by the King to serve as the assistant minister of defense.
