#SaveMayowa Alleged Scam: Family Detained, Release statement reacting to situation

The family of Mayowa Ahmed, who is suffering from stage 4 Ovarian cancer, have been detained by police over allegations that the entire campaign was a scam.

Online reports indicated that Mayowa’s cancer was at such a stage that it was untreatable and that the family had been told as much but went ahead to raise funds anyway.

The family have released a statement stating that it was no scam and that they are indeed taking Mayowa for treatment tomorrow. They claimed that they are taking her to Abu Dhabi for treatment. Unfortunately, in their campaign they claimed that they were taking her to one  Emory hospital, Atlanta.

Emory hospital had quoted them $100,000 for an initial deposit and then between $3,000-$30,000 per session over 10-50 treatments depending on effectiveness.

You can see the letter they got back from Emory hospital below.

However, it has now been reported on an online medium that Mayowa has no letter of invitation from Emory, neither does she have a visa to America and the cancer has gone as far as her liver.

Some of her family members are now being detained at Area D in Mushin while the police investigate the matter.

Below is the statement of the family denying that the campaign was a scam.
