A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday ordered that one Ado Gambo, 20, be given six strokes of the cane for stealing iron rod.
Gambo of no fixed address had pleaded guilty to a count charge of theft.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, who gave the order, after Gambo admitted committing the offence, said that the court might not be lenient with him the next time he appeared before it.
The prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that the matter was reported by one Mohammed Hamed, of 1st Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate Abuja, at the Gwarimpa Police Station on May 9.
The prosecutor said that the convict on that same date, went into the complainant’s site and stole iron rod valued at N4, 000.
Dalhatu said he was caught in the act and the rod recovered from him during police investigation, and he also confessed to committing the crime.
The offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
