Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and an activist, has demanded that the tollgate built by the Lagos State Government and the Lekki Concession Company at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge should be scrapped and free passage allowed.

Adegboruwa SAN, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said that the Lagos State Government and the Lekki Concession Company should publicly state how much they have made so far from toll fees, which according to him must be more than enough to recover the amount spent in building the tollgate.

He nevertheless commended the move of the government and its partner to introduce electronic payment system at the tollgate which he stated has reduced gridlock on the bridge.

However, Adegboruwa insisted that eradicating the tolling system would be the best move of the government and Governor Sanwo-Olu, who should “make governance easy for our people, if we care.”

He also stated that the roundabout in Lekki Admiralty Way should be removed in order to allow free passage of commuters in that area.

He said;

“We should move towards total eradication of any form of tolling at all, as it has been established that the bridge was built with taxpayers money.

“Having collected the toll for well over a decade now, the government should tell us how much it has so far generated from the toll regime, so that we know where we are.

“Furthermore, the roundabout at the landing of the bridge on Admiralty Way should go completely so that proper movement can become easy for Lekki dwellers who don’t intend to use the bridge.”
