Heavy rains in recent months have replenished the Sea of Galilee, ending years of worries about the falling water level, Israeli officials said on Friday

The rainfall has put the sea’s level at 208.9 metres below sea level, just 10 centimetres short of its record high.

The sea, back in 2017, as the region suffered from drought, was recorded at 214 metres below sea level.

The Sea of Galilee is the world’s lowest-lying body of freshwater.

It is also Israel’s most important source of water.

It is also a draw for religious pilgrims who want to see the waters, which play prominently in the Bible.

According to the Bible, Jesus performed multiple miracles there, including walking on the water and feeding a crowd of people with only five loaves of bread and two fishes.
