Second HIV Patient, Castillejo From London, Gets Cured

A man from London, identified as Adam Castillejo has been cured of  HIV after undergoing stem cell transplant treatment.

 

Doctors confirmed that the patient, who will be the second person to ever be cured of the disease, has no trace of infection in his system after 30 months without anti-retroviral therapy.

Castillejo went through a cell transplant procedure to treat Venezula cancer by receiving cells from donors with a rare genetic mutation that prevents HIV from taking hold.

 

The first Berlin-Patient to be cured in 2011, Timothy Brown, was cured of HIV, three and half years after having similar treatment as Castillejo.
