The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be headed for deeper internal wrangling over National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus’ bid for a second term in office.
Secondus, whose tenure expires in December, is said to be causing a rift between two power blocs in the party.
Although Secondus rode to power on the back of Nyesom Wike, who is the governor of his home state of Rivers and major party financier, the duo appears to have fallen out.
However, Secondus is said to enjoy the backing of the PDP Governors Forum, which is said to be satisfied with his performance.

Contrary opinions on whether or not to retain Secondus as party chairman is said to have caused a rift between Wike and the forum’s chairman, Aminu Tambuwal.
Wike is said to be nursing a 2023 presidential ambition and wants Secondus out since both National Chairman and Presidential candidate cannot emerge from the same state.
“Wike wants to be on joint PDP presidential ticket in 2023. With Secondus as chairman up to 2023, that chance will be lost. Secondus and Wike are from the same Southsouth, the same Rivers State.
“It is obvious that the PDP cannot field a Southsouth/Rivers man on its joint presidential ticket when the party chairman is also from Southsouth/Rivers. So, Secondus’ chairmanship will be an obstacle to Wike’s ambition,” The Nation quoted a top party source as saying.
Tambuwal, on the other hand, is said to be rooting for the retention of Secondus to brighten the chances for his presidential ambition.
The Sokoto State Governor is said to be banking on a running mate from the Southwest/Southeast.
