Security guard to spend two months in jail for stealing men’s singlet

A Mpape Grade I Area Court Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 36-year-old security guard, Suleiman Ganiyu, to two months in prison for stealing a pack of men’s singlet.

The Judge, Salihu Ibrahim, sentenced Ganiyu after he pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal trespass and theft.

Ibrahim however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N5, 000.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, H.S. Ibrahim told the court that the case was reported at the Garki Police Station by the complainant, Yakubu Usman, of Area 10 Garki Abuja in June 15.

Ibrahim said the convict stole a pack of men’s singlet from the complainant’s shop at UTC shopping complex, Area 10 Garki, Abuja.

He said that, during police investigation the convict confessed to the crime.

Ibrahim also said that the stolen singlets were recovered from the convict.

The offence, he added, contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
