Senate President Ahmad Lawan has welcomed Orji Uzor Kalu back to the chamber

It would be recalled that Kalu spent five months in Kuje Correctional facility after a federal high court found him guilty of diverting state funds to the tune of N7.1 billion. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in December 2019.

However, a Federal court in Lagos last week ordered his immediate release.

Orji Kalu who represents Abia North resumed duties at the National Assembly despite protest from some of his kinsmen who enjoined Senate President Lawan to declare his seat vacant.

Welcoming him aboard, Lawan said ”Welcome back our one and only Chief Whip. We are very grateful to God for bringing you back.”
