Saraki accused the APC government led by Buhari of greatly ridiculing and provoking him

The Senate has reacted to revelations by Sen. Shehu Sani (APC – Kaduna Central) that each senator receives N13.5 million as running cost.

Sani said in a recent interview that the N13.5 million is accounted for while another N700,000 is unaccounted for.

But reacting in a statement, the spokesman of the Senate, Sen. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said Sani did not disclose anything new.

He said that the supposed revelations of his colleague were already in the public domain “as the figures were contained in various line items and expenditure heads of the budget of the national assembly which has been made public.”

Abdullahi described as a fallacy insinuations that the other lawmakers were angry with Sani over the supposed revelations.

He further disclosed that Nigerians only needed to look critically at the budget to see that items “like traveling, medicals, consultancy and the rest were captured in the budget and they were the funds divided for each Senator’s use”.

He added that, “Almost all holders of elective and appointive offices have running costs allocated to their offices and that cannot be said to be part of their salaries.”
