The Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo, who was one of the two lecturers ealier captured on a BBC documentary of “Sex For Grades” said be will be suing BBC for the scandalous publication which it released earlier on Monday, 7th October.

Gyampo had been seen making inappropriate request to a BBC reporter who had posed to be a student seeking academic favours.

Gyampo has taken to his Facebook page to declare his intention to commence legal actions against BBC. According to him, the documentary could not establish what it alleged.

Gyampo further said that BBC had edited the video to suit their malicious purpose.

He said,

“I have been counselled to be silent on a matter of entrapment masterminded by a certain unscrupulous people, with the aid of BBC (African Eye) against me.

“Unfortunately, my students this afternoon also insisted that I say something to clear the air. I am grateful to them for the support they showed me this afternoon. I am grateful to all my friends for the numerous phone calls and messages to show solidarity. For my haters who were expecting to see the worst video, and actually texted to rejoice over what they think is going to be my downfall, I forgive them

“I have a lot to say about this matter. But I am suing the BBC for defamation tomorrow, so I will keep some of the facts to myself for now.

“Let me state, however, that I have not involved myself in the BBC‘s so-called sex for grades and will never do so. Their own video documentary evidence could not establish this. I am aware of my University’s Sexual Harassment Policy and I have always adhered to its dogmas.

“The lady involved in my informal conversation, was not my student and she wasn’t also a student from the University of Ghana where I teach. I, therefore, cannot decipher how I could manipulate the grade of a non-student.

“The BBC ignored all her contributions to our conversation. They ignored all the messages she sent to me. They ignored my objections and letters written to refute their allegations. They also edited the video to suit their purpose.

“While I prepare to sue the BBC for carrying out the most bogus and unprofessional piece of the documentary in the world so far, I wish to remind them that Ghana and for that matter, Africa, has long thrown out the yoke of colonialism.”

However, this is not the first time that  Ransford Gyampo will be facing sexual allegation according to GhanaWeb. He then associated the the scandal as a political move against him.

he said;

“I had criticized a political party and they felt putting sexual allegations on me was a way of shutting me up. I’ve always said that, the worst a politician can do is kill me but even with that, I’m not scared to die,” he said in his defense while reacting to a claim by one Ben Kwaku Andrew Asare on Starr FM.

“In my 13 years teaching here, (UG) nobody has raised that allegation against me… … But the attempts to always silence the voice of reason within the body politics does not work with people like me. I am resolved, I will do my best for mother Ghana and I will continue to speak my mind at all times,”

Gyampo while speaking to My Joy TV, reminded the public that his accuser at the first scandal apologised and retracted his statement.
