Seyi Shay reflects on early collaborations and mentorship with Wizkid

Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has shared fresh insight into her early working relationship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, describing how their creative partnership grew into a lasting friendship and mentorship.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Irawo” crooner recounted how their strong musical chemistry resulted in collaborations such as their joint track “Crazy” and her contributions as a background vocalist on some of Wizkid’s early records.

“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song, and he featured me on one of his songs. I also did some background vocals for a couple of his other songs. We became genuine friends,” Seyi Shay revealed.

Praising Wizkid’s artistry, she described him as a rare creative genius.

“He’s incredibly smart and talented. I’ve seen him record while eating, and that was mind-blowing. He’s like a magician. I’m heavily attracted to people of extraordinary talent. My spirit connects with people that are inhumanly talented,” she said.

Beyond music, the singer explained that Wizkid often advised her on how to navigate fame and deal with the complexities of the entertainment industry.

“He used to advise me a lot and tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
