Shares Dumping Continues As Local Bourse Loses 0.59%

The downward spiral of Nigeria’s local bourse continued today as investor uncertainty led to a fifth straight day of losses. The primary index, the All Share Index which tracks the performance of all shares on the bourse lost 0.59% after going down by 0.86% yesterday. The primary index closed at 29,396.31 basis points losing 176 basis points. Market Capitalization for the market at the close of trading today was N10.10 trillion.

The total number of deals recorded on the floor reduced by 9.17% after reducing by 8.13% yesterday, the total volume of shares traded on the floor increased by 173.43% after dipping by 61.50% yesterday, while the total value of transactions recorded increased by 40.47% after dropping by 74.03%.

The Gainers chart was led by SEPLAT which gained N3 on improved demand to close at N238, closely followed by DANGCEM and ASHAKACEM which gained N1.50 and N0.90 respectively.

The Losers chart was led by GUINNESS for the second day in a row, losing N6.75 to close at N128.34, closely followed by WAPCO and STANBIC which lost N2.20 and N1.56 respectively.

The top five most actively traded shares by volume on the exchange today were STRLNBNK, ZENITHBANK, TRANSCORP, FBNH and UBA with a combined total of 314 million shares traded.

Market breadth closed negative as SEPLAT led 11 Gainers against 33 Losers led by GUINNESS.

Year-To-Date currently stands at -15.18%.
