According to AFP, where this video was obtained, “Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video released Sunday that he led an October 24 attack in which 35 people found in military uniform were killed in the Nigerian city of Damaturu.”
However the video gives no actual indication as to if Shekau is alive or not. Nigeria Military officials believe he died a few months back on the border of Nigerian and Cameroon after he sustained gunshot wounds.
Some believe the Shekau videos still being released are propaganda. In this video the character claiming to be Shekau is wearing the same exact outfit as in the previous video. Also the carpet backdrop in the video released earlier still features in the latest video, just that it is hidden with a dirty black cloth with arabic inscriptions and AK-47’s printed on it.
