Shi’ite Women Protesting El-Zakzaky’s Detention Clash With Muslim Youths in Jos

Another bout of Violence has rocked the Shi’ites Sect as Female Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria clashed with a rival Muslim youth group while protesting the detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been in army custody for over a month.

Media and Communications Officer of the Special Task Force, also known as ‘Operation Safe Haven’, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha has reportedly said that the clash lead to the death of one person leaving others injured.

Hundreds of Shi’ite women, all clad in black staged the protest in Jos demanding the release of El-Zakzaky, his wife and other members of the movement.

Iweha told a national newspaper that the incident has caused tension in around Bauchi Road, Rikkos, Angwan Rogo, Dilimi, Nasarawa, Gwom and many other Hausa-dominated areas.

He said “The procession by the women later turned violent as rival Muslim youths clashed along Bauchi Road as the Shi’ite members were proceeding to the Central Mosque and the commander has ordered a round-the-clock security surveillance and patrol and we would not want to take chances.

A ban on all forms of rallies, protest or procession in Jos and such rallies must get the permission of the police upon application.
