‘Shut Down Social Media’ – Kemi Olunloyo Urges FG Amid #EndSARS Protest

Controversial Nigerian journalist, Kemi Olunloyo has urged the Federal Government to shut down social media amid ongoing #EndSARs protest.

According to Kemi Olunloyo, the fight against police brutality and continuous harassment of Nigerian youths is unnecessary.

She noted that shutting down social media is not so special as countries like China, Turkey, and Tokyo have once shut down the internet in such circumstances.

She tweeted: “China did it Turkey did it Togo did it I’m an international Journalist and I support the Government SHUTTING DOWN @Twitter @instagram and @Facebook during the #EndSarsNow uprising. Last week I said this country will shut down in a week, the same ppl abusing me. #ShutltAllDown.”

Meanwhile, The official Twitter account of President Muhammad Buhari lost over N100k followers after  #unfollowBuhari trended on twitter amid protests.

Reno Omokri had earlier taken to Twitter to urge Nigerians to unfollow Buhari. He tweeted: “Dear Nigerians,  If we all mean business with this #EndSARS movement, let’s send a strong message to General @MBuhari.

“He has 3.5 million followers. If we all stop following him and he sees his Twitter following drop by 1 million, he will sit up. Who is with me? Let’s go there!”

As at that time, President Buhari had 3.5 million followers. Three hours later, his following had reduced to 3.4 million followers.
