When Dr. Doyin Okupe was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan to be his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, some activists called him an “attack dog”. Mr. Okupe immediately set the tone by re-branding himself as “attack lion”.

He has certainly lived up to his name, especially with his performance on BBC’s HardTalk, where he defended the administration’s performance on several issues usually politicized by the opposition who normally create disinformation campaigns in order to pit the people against their leadership.

On the program, Doyin Okupe said there was no failure in governance in Nigeria, which is one of the disinformation campaigns, opposition propaganda has been spearheading to confuse the international media.

Furthermore, Okupe stated categorically that the crisis in Nigeria is partially caused by political elements bent on ensuring that President Jonathan relinquishes power.

He held court and even asked the tough interviewer why he was holding court for Sanusi. Okupe said, “Stephen, are you Sanusi’s lawyer?”
