The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, on Tuesday announced the state government’s plan to compensate the families of the 138 victims of the 2015 hajj stampede from the state with N500,000 each.

He made this known in Sokoto, when he received the report of the hajj committee.

While stating that the compensation could not make up for the precious lives lost, he said it was in keeping up with his promise to compensate the victim’s families when the tragic incident occurred in Mina in September.

Records show that of the 138 victims from the state, 114 were confirmed dead, 22 missing and two injured.

The state’s delegation to this year’s hajj was led by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu.
