‘Soldier commits suicide at duty post in Bauchi’

A soldier identified as Bello Useni has reportedly committed suicide in the Nigerian Army School of Armour, Obienu Barracks in Bauchi State.

TheCable reported, quoting unnamed military sources, that the soldier was at his duty post within the barracks when he suddenly cocked his rifle and shot himself in the stomach.

The incident occurred at 4 pm on Wednesday, although the reason for Useni’s action remains unknown.

The soldier was said to have enlisted in 2020 and was serving his first posting at the School o Armour when he committed suicide.

His remains have reportedly been deposited at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU), Bauchi while other soldiers with him at the time of the incident were locked up in the guardroom pending an investigation.

Nigerian Army authorities have yet to confirm the development.

Recall that on September 17, 2020, a lance corporal attached to the Army’s 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Gari, Gujba local government area of Yobe state, committed suicide and left a note for his wife.
