The Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has assured soldiers that the Nigerian Army will work on improving their welfare packages in accordance with best practices and standards.

Buratai, who said this in his Sallah message to troops on Monday, urged them to redouble their efforts as they tackle the security challenges facing the country.

Recall that many of the soldiers involved in the counter-insurgency fight in the North-East lamented their low Ration Cash Allowance which they argued could not meet the economic realities and “grossly inadequate” for the hazards they face daily.

But the Chief of Army Staff said, “I want to urge you not to rest on your laurels  because the existing and even emerging security threats are potent and we must continue to be ahead of them. We must redouble our efforts to completely eliminate all acts of insurgency, kidnapping, banditry, secessionism and other forms of security threats from every inch of our beloved country.”

“We will continue to re-evaluate the welfare packages of the Nigerian Army to ensure they meet best practices and standards,” he added.
