Sophie Theallet, New York based French designer and regular fixture at New York Fashion Week, has opted out on dressing the future First Lady because of her husband, Donald Trump’s political views and racism.
The designer, who criticized Trump heavily, complained about the President-elect’s views on life, and it’s contract to what is obtainable in the society.
Sophie, who is apparently mixing business with politics, lamented on Trumps campaign style and disassociated herself from the new President-elect’s family.
Theallet wrote: “As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next first lady.”
“The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.”
“I am well aware it is not wise to get involved in politics,” Theallet added.
“That said, as a family-owned company, our bottom line is not just about money.”
Sophie’s letter has come under heavy criticism as many people condemned her actions for relating business with politics.
The 52-year-old designer, who has over fifteen years experience, has dressed the first lady, Michelle Obama, severally with a lot of accolades given to her for a job well done.
Michelle Obama has worn the designers dresses since 2009. Sophie who is pleased to work with the Obama’s, wrote about the First Lady, stating her contributions worldwide.
In her words, “Michelle Obama has contributed to having our name recognised and respected worldwide. Her values, actions and grace have always resonated deeply within me.”
