American rapper Soulja Boy has sparked controversy after revealing that he was paid to perform at former President Donald Trump’s inauguration ball in 2017.
In an Instagram Live video, Soulja Boy responded to critics who felt he betrayed their trust by performing at the event. He stated that he was paid for his performance, adding that former President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris never compensated him for his work.
Soulja Boy’s comments come after fellow performers Nelly and Snoop Dogg also faced backlash for their involvement in the inauguration event. While Nelly claimed his performance was an act of honor and not for financial gain, Snoop Dogg has yet to comment on the criticism.
