South-South leaders have called on Nigerians, particularly Kogi Central constituents, to stand firmly behind Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, condemning attempts by certain political figures to undermine her. They urged the nation to view her cause as their own, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of political disruption.
“The suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is an affront to both Kogi Central constituents and Nigerian women,” the leaders said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Leaders from across the South-South region expressed concern over what they described as attempts by some senators and Kogi APC figures to manipulate public sentiment, citing false signatures and the mobilization of disruptive elements in a bid to recall the senator from the Senate.
In the statement, issued in Port Harcourt, the leaders condemned the six-month suspension as a misguided decision that undermines unity in the Senate. They called for the immediate lifting of the suspension, asserting that such actions only create division and chaos.

“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan stands on the right side of history,” they stated, commending her resilience in the face of adversity.
The leaders also criticized some senators for engaging in divisive politics that threaten to erode the principles of respectful discourse. They accused the Senate leadership of sending a damaging message of moral failure and selfishness, calling it a short-sighted move that undermines the nation’s democratic process.
The South-South leaders also rejected calls for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s arrest, labeling them as foolish and unwarranted.
In a direct appeal to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the leaders urged him to put aside partisan politics, set aside personal pride, and adopt a more constructive approach to resolving the issue. They emphasized the need for calm and reason, advocating for a dialogue with High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri, to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
“This is a critical moment for the Senate and the country. We implore Senator Akpabio to consider the consequences of further escalation and to seek a solution through dialogue, rather than through legal battles or petitions,” the leaders added.
Finally, the leaders took aim at the Executive Watchdog, calling its criticism of Akpoti-Uduaghan “sickening and unacceptable.” They pledged their unwavering support for the senator, underscoring her political acumen, determination, and commitment to the nation’s progress.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is a valuable asset to Nigeria,” the South-South leaders concluded, reaffirming their solidarity with her throughout this challenging period.
