Publisher of SaharaReporters and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has vowed to fight the cause of a female soldier that has been allegedly detained by the Nigerian Army after she accepted a marriage proposal from a corps member at the NYSC orientation camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

Recall that a video recently went viral showing the female soldier, decked in full military camouflage, kissing the corps member while also brandishing her engagement ring.

After the video went viral, reports circulated that she was detained by army authorities for violating rules prohibiting public display of affection by military personnel on duty.

Sharing a copy of the video on his verified Facebook page, Sowore wrote: “Just came to my attention that the @Nigerian army detained the female soldier in this video for getting a proposal from a youth corps member.

“What the Army did is totally unacceptable and I would very much love to mobilise for her to get justice. Our society is getting more and more oppressive and discriminatory. This has to stop! Please if you have her contact or know how she could be reached, kindly DM me! #revolutionnow”
