Steven Gerrard Warned Me Against Arsenal, Said I Should Wait For Barca – Luis Suarez

Barcelona forward, Luis Suarez is unarguably one of the best strikers in the world and also one of the most sought after.

The Uruguayan, who played for Liverpool between 2011 and 2014, was close to a £40 million move to Arsenal in 2013 but the deal fell through.

Two years after making a highly-profitable switch to the Camp Nou, the 29-year-old has revealed the true reason behind his decision not to move to Arsenal.

According to the striker, who netted his 41st goal for Barcelona this season on Saturday against Las Palmas which takes his tally to 66 in 80 games for the Blaugrana, it was a conversation with Steven Gerrard that convinced him to cancel the Arsenal interest.

He said: “Arsenal’s interest in me was very public. I don’t think it is any secret.

“I had a private conversation with Stevie after training, and he told me to give Liverpool another season, and wait for Barcelona.

“Looking back now it is one of the most important conversations of my life, but that is Stevie, he was a captain who was always ready to give his players advice.”

However, Suarez says Barcelona will not be taking Arsenal lightly when they jam in the first leg of the UCL round of 16 on Tuesday.

“We are playing very well, but we can not be complacent about Arsenal at all.

“They have players that can hurt any team in Europe, and they look like they have a very good chance of winning the Premier League this season.

“They are one of the best teams in England, and we will have to perform at our best,” he stated.
