ASUU Strike Looms As Govt Pays Only Varsity Lecturers On IPPIS

The Federal Government, in line with its directive, has stated that only varsity lecturers who have been captured on the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) will get their January salaries, which has been speculated to be paid on Friday, January 31.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been against the Federal Government over the creation of the IPPIS, mandating all varsity lecturers to be captured on it. The creation of the IPPIS was later followed by a warning to all lecturers who have refused to be registered that they would not get their January salaries paid, owing to the advice from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and The Minister of Justice.

The Nation News correspondence gathered from a source in the OAGF who said;

“We have concluded arrangements to pay workers their January salary but lecturers not captured under IPPIS will not be paid.”

In reaction, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, President of the umbrella body, ASUU, stated that the union members will invoke “no pay no work” resolution which was created at one of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Minna, Niger State, last year.

“Once the government begins payment of January salaries of lecturers in the universities and our members are not paid then we will invoke the no pay no work resolution.

“We already have that resolution and it will take effect once our members are not paid their January salary. That is our position.”
