Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos has warned Barcelona defender and fellow Spaniard, Gerard Pique against disrespecting the team.

The Barcelona defender has a long history of throwing overt and covert jabs at the ‘Le Merengues’, including a tweet made up of only laughing emojis, in which he made fun of Real Madrid for their expulsion from the Copa Del Rey, after they featured Denis Cheryshev, who was unqualified to play.

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa had responded to Pique, describing him as “obsessed with Real Madrid”.

After Madrid were beaten on Sunday by Villarreal, Pique resumed his stock-in-trade, mocking the club and describing Arbeloa as an “acquaintance” even when the Madrid defender called him a “friend”.

Ramos admitted admiring Pique, but called on him to respect his fellow players and rival clubs.

He said: “To Piqué I say that he must show respect for his fellow players.

“Lack of respect creates a bad atmosphere.

“In recent years we have had good examples like Puyol, Xavi, Raúl and Iker, and we have to stay clear of foolishness.”
