The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff has revealed the reason behind his move to walk out on the former president of the country, Goodluck Jonathan during a peace meeting organised by the ex-president.

Speaking on his move, Ali Modu Sheriff who stormed out of the meeting organised to broker peace between the two factions of the Political party said he had respected the past leader enough.

This comes after Sheriff was denied his request to preside over the meeting as the authentic party chairman when he arrived at the meeting venue at about 3:10 pm, just after the former president Goodluck Jonathan had ended his opening remarks.

Sheriff was further denied his demand to be allowed to make an opening speech, a move which infuriated him and thus made him storm out of the meeting venue along with some members of his National Working Committee, NWC.

Sheriff said: “The party as at today has one national chairman, which is Ali Modu Sheriff. There is no PDP meeting that will take place under any arrangement that I will not make an opening remark as national chairman.

“I think Governor Dickson made a proposal and we have accepted it. Other people have a programme to bring an agenda which is not part of the proposal.

“And as a national chairman of the party, I told you people in my office that I will not be party to anybody using me to do another programme; I will not be.”

Speaking on his respect for the former president, Sheriff said: “I have respected him by flying from abroad to attend the meeting.

“We have a programme, which is initiated by Dickson, anything outside that, I will not be part of it.”
