Suarez Laments Over Strike Partner Cavani Ahead Of France Clash

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez has expressed concerns over strike partner, Edinson Cavani’s availability for the crunch quarterfinal clash against France in the ongoing World Cup.

Despite scoring the two goals that helped La Celeste beat Portugal in the last-16 stage, Cavani limped off with an injury to his left shin.

Doubts have persisted over the Paris Saint Germain striker’s availability for the game, with Suarez saying his absence would be a big loss to the South American nation.

At a press conference ahead of the Friday clash, Suarez said, “What Edinson stands for, in terms of my game and for the team, is essential – he has shown how important he is for La Celeste.

I cannot talk about his recovery from injury, but I know that he has the desire, the attitude and is making the effort to do everything to be there — it does not only depend on him, though.”

However, he said Uruguay would forge ahead if Cavani is unable to make it in time for the clash.

“We have played without Edinson already, during qualification, and the team adapted to the situation,” explained Suarez.

“This is different, though – this is a World Cup. There are players who can fill in for Edinson but anyway, the game will not depend on one single player – we have already shown a lot of progress for a collective point of view.”
