Sule Lamido Sues PDP, Seeks Court Order to Stop November 15 National Convention
A former governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has taken the party to court, seeking to halt its upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Lamido, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking for an order stopping the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding with or supervising the convention.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CD/2229/2025, was filed through his counsel, Jephthah Chikodi Njikonye, SAN. The former governor claimed he was unlawfully denied a nomination form to contest for the position of PDP National Chairman, describing the process as “unconstitutional and discriminatory.”
According to Lamido, the party failed to follow its constitution and guidelines in organizing the convention, thereby depriving qualified members of equal opportunities to contest for leadership positions.
He prayed the court to compel the PDP to make the nomination form for the national chairman position available to him and to restrain INEC from supervising or recognizing any convention until his rights are restored.
Lamido’s legal action marks another twist in the growing internal crisis within the opposition party, coming just weeks before the planned convention intended to elect new national officers.
