Against the backdrop of accusations that they are secretly working for President Muhammadu Buhari, South East governors have been warned to support the presidential ambition of the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to be assured of their own second terms.

The Anambra State Chairman of PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Oseloka Obaze, made the observation in an interaction with journalists in Awka, the state capital.

According to Obaze, the governors ought to know that victory for Buhari on February 16 could jeopardise their own re-election bids on March 2, when the gubernatorial elections will be held.

The Herald can report that except for Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Willie Obiano of Anambra, who are members of APC and APGA respectively and are already in their second terms, the three remaining governors in the region are members of the PDP and are serving their first terms in office.

Obaze, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in 2017, said that majority of Igbos had decided to pitch their tents with Atiku and his running mate, Peter Obi.

He disclosed that should the South East PDP governors decide to toe a different part, they would feel the backlash from Igbos during the March 2 election.

He said, “If it becomes clear that the governors work against Atiku-Obi interest in the February 16 polls, it will have a devastating effect on the governors in their March 2nd elections .

“If they don’t work hard and our party loses, there will be a backlash against them from Ndigbo after the election. If Buhari returns, there is no assurance they will win their own elections

“It will therefore be inimical if they work against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ticket.

“It’s not possible for them to do so.They won’t try it because it will be against them.

“As of today, I will tell you that we are all working together to achieve this project. The governors are with us. They don’t have any alternative.”
