Some staunch supporters of the current Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, matched to the state’s house of assembly on Wednesday to protest the purported impeachment plans against the Governor.
The group of protesters included middle-aged women and men who carried placards with various inscriptions on them. One of it read that should Ambode be impeached from office, the upcoming elections will not be peaceful in the state. Another inscription read that the lawmakers should let the Governor complete his tenure.
A few days back, members of the State House of Assembly accused Ambode of unjustly spending from the 2019 budget, among other misconducts. Thereafter, they gave a seven-day ultimatum for him to defend the accusations.
Throughout the protest, Police vehicles were parked close to the entrance of the House of Assembly building while the protesters remained outside, chanting and showing solidarity for the out-of-favor governor.
A protester simply referred to as Jimoh, lamented that Ambode should not have been given the sort of treatment he is currently undergoing. He stated, “I am concerned as a Lagosian. His performance is visible. They should leave him alone. I was not paid to come for this protest. Nobody gave me anything. They should just allow him to complete his tenure, which ends in a few months time.”
