The Police on Wednesday arraigned one Emmanuel Dayo in a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspect from lawful custody.

Dayo of Shelter Farm Byazhin, Kubwa, Abuja, is facing a count charge of screening of an offender.

The Prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the defendant deceived the police at the Kubwa Police Station and entered a recognisance to produce one Moses Ogba for investigation when needed.

“Ogba who is now at large was earlier investigated and detained by the police for allegedly forging documents and cheating a man of N 2.5 million.

“The defendant deceived the police into believing that Ogba was his business partner and the suspect was released to the defendant.

“However during investigations it was revealed that the defendant fraudulently aided Ogba’s escape from lawful custody,’’ the prosecutor told the court.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 168 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, granted the defendant N1 million bail with one surety in the like sum.
