Suspected Homosexuals Walk As Nigerian Court Drops Charges

Two men suspected to be homosexuals have been freed by a magistrate court in Benin City, Nigeria after spending a total of 50 days in prison.

The men, Paul Frank, 31, and Christian Ejimofor, 22, were both arrested in December 2016 and charged to court with conspiracy, unlawful carnal knowledge and stealing.

According to reports, the prosecuting counsel, O.A. Enebabor told the court that the accused men committed the offences between Dec. 14 and Dec. 17, 2016 at Boundary Road, Benin adding that the arrested suspects engaged in unlawful sexual act.

However, a US based attorney, Tom Malanga, was reported to have intervened in the case and provided support after which, the accused were offered bail in the sum close to about N200,000 each.

The bail condition was reportedly met by Mr. Malanga’s associates in Nigeria.

The case however proceeded in a fierce back and forth interrogation until the victims were set free on May 30th followinf the discard of the video evidence which was presented against the men on grounds that their confession was obtained under duress. The police was also accused of beating the suspects and coercing them into confessing to the alleged crime.
