The vice-chancellor noted that the establishment of the centre was also to increase the renewable energy portfolio of the university.

He added that it was also to cut back on the institution’s reliance on diesel fuel consumption and by implication, reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The professor of law further noted that in line with the KWASU’s core values of academic excellence, equity and diversity, the centre would advance world-class research activities with the aim of facilitating visible and sustainable energy development for the country as a whole.

According to him, the centre will also train students in various areas of energy development which will lead to the award of certificates, degrees and Masters degrees in renewable energy.

While congratulating Adewunmi on his appointment as the third Chancellor of the institution, Akanbi expressed the hope that he would avail KWASU of his vast experience in the field of education and energy development.

”As one of the few Nigerians saddled with the responsibility of resuscitating the moribund hydroelectric projects in the country, KWASU will be grateful if we can tap from your fountain of knowledge and experience as a foremost educationist, philanthropist and engineer.

“I hope that your appointment will add more value to the university in our collective bid to move the institution forward,” he said.

On his part, the new chancellor said quality should always be the watchword in KWASU in its quest to raise graduates that were employable.

He pointed out that though Engineering is his occupation, education remained his passion.

”Education is the best means of developing the country, so I urge staff of KWASU to work hand in hand with Prof. Akanbi to take the university higher, ” he said.

The chancellor also reiterated his resolve to sacrifice all that may be required to achieve greatness for KWASU.
