In order to ensure that both male and female rape victims get adequate care, a hospital in Stockholm has established an emergency department specially for male rape victims.
The Rape clinic already has round the clock care facility for sexually assaulted women and girls. The clinic treats nearly 700 patients in a year and possesses the largest emergency care unit the region.
It will be the first one to open a clinic which will treat male victims of rape and sex attacks.
The emergency medical care for male rape victims will be given free of cost and the services will be available 24 hours a day.
Swedish authorities estimate that there are as many as 370 cases of sexual assault on men or boys reported in the city yearly. Sweden has the highest rape rate in Europe.
