A fuel-laden tanker fell at a busy juncion in  Ibadan, Oyo State, and exploded, burning down 60 houses on Monday evening.

According to an eyewitness, the incident happened around 6.30 p.m, when the tanker, with Lagos registration number XJ 288 SMK, fell off as it was trying to manoeuvre its way at Inalende junction, Omitowoju, of the ancient city.

It was gathered that  attempts by the driver to maintain the balance failed and the vehicle tipped over, thereby spilling its content down the road before it exploded.

The raging inferno, the eyewitness said, affected many houses and shops on the street.

As of the time of going to press, the fire was still raging, while there are unconfirmed reports that some people were trapped in some of the houses and shops already razed by the fire. Fire fighters were also at the scene, making efforts to put out the fire.

It was also gathered that in order to avoid being trapped in the fire,  many residents and traders had fled the area.

Some of those who spoke with this correspondent lamented their losses to the fire, while others were searching for their loved ones.
