Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to disqualify Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Aisha Jummai Alhassan popularly called Mama Taraba, from the APC governorship primaries in Taraba.

Mama Taraba’s disqualification became apparent after the party released the list of cleared governorship aspirants across the country  on Friday.

The minister, who contested the Taraba gubernatorial elections in 2015, was conspicuously absent from the list for Taraba, just as Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu was also absent from the list for Oyo State.

While the APC did not state reasons for Mama Taraba’s disqualification, it is believed to be connected to her well-known loyalty to former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Herald recalls that Mama Taraba in 2017 promised to resign should Buhari seek a second term in office.

She later apologised for the comment after the APC national leadership summoned her.
