Residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State were on Saturday thrown into apprehension when some Boko Haram fighters engaged soldiers in a gun battle.

Confirming the incident, Bello Danbatta, an official of the State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA), said the insurgents targetted a mosque in the area but were overpowered by the military.

“Only one person was injured in the attack but the Boko Haram fighters were chased away. However, the worshipers scampered for safety following sporadic gunshots,” he said.
