Tension In the Middle East: If Iran Builds A Nuclear Bomb, So Will We- Saudi Arabian Prince

Tensions are rising in the Middle East as the Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, has declared that if Iran isn’t stopped from building a nuclear bomb, Saudi Arabia will follow suit.

He said this on the backdrop of his second official visit to Washington, where he plans to hold talks with US President Donald Trump and Mike Pence along with other senior US officials.

The threat, if made good, would plunge the Middle East into further turmoil with a power struggle evidently in place.

The ambitious Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is getting tired of waiting on the US to do something about Iran and might take matters into his own hands.

The US is supposed to recertify the Iran nuclear deal, a deal which lifted crippling sanctions earlier placed on Iran in return for a limitation of their Nuclear power program which it was feared would lead to the creation of a nuclear weapon. According to foreign policy analysts however, it seems Trump might move away from this deal.

The chair of the Senate foreign relations committee, Bob Corker, said that Trump will back away from the deal. He said, “The Iran deal will be another issue that’s coming up in May, and right now it doesn’t feel like it’s going to be extended,

“I think the president likely will move away from it, unless our European counterparts really come together on a framework. And it doesn’t feel to me that they are. Now, as we get within two weeks of the 12 May date, that could change.”

This would mean there would be nothing stopping Iran from continuing with their Nuclear energy program which could realise the worst fears of the world superpowers– the creation of a nuclear weapon.

In the possible event of this, Prince Salman is ready to retaliate, saying in an interview; “Saudi Arabia does not want to acquire any nuclear bomb, But without a doubt, if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.”
