A Ghanaian footballer, Mohammed Anas, who caused a major controversy online some weeks ago after mistakenly thanking his wife and girlfriend following a match has revealed what he meant during the interview.
The footballer who plays for South African side, Free State Stars was recorded during a post match interview to have said: I appreciate my fans, my wife and my girlfriend. I mean my wife! Sorry to say, I’m so sorry, my wife.”I love you so much. I love you so much from my heart.”
The footballer who made frantic efforts to recall the word ‘girlfriend’ which he uttered during the interview has defended his move saying his daughter was the ‘girlfriend’ he was referring to.
Mohammed Anas in a statement issued defended the starling statement he made during the interview saying: “My family knows that I call my daughter my girlfriend. That’s what I was talking about. I don’t have a girlfriend.
He added: “I love her so much. She’s given me two beautiful children. She is fine. She knows what kind of man I am so I am not worried.
“I’m famous now – people around the world know me.”
