Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has backed calls by some Northern groups for Fulani herdsmen to leave any part of Southern Nigeria where their safety is not guaranteed.

Recall that Chairman of Northern Elders Forum (NCF), Prof Ango Abdullahi on Tuesday warned of alleged plots by some unscrupulous elements to engage herdsmen in combat in some parts of the South.

Speaking in a news conference in Abuja, Abdullahi said, “But then, if there is no certainty that their safety is guaranteed by the authorities that are immediately around them or by the authorities that have the responsibility for the overall security of all Nigerians wherever they reside, we are certainly worried about their well-being and I think particular attention should be paid to what is happening on hour-to-hour, day-to-day basis.

“And if it is indeed, true that their safety is not guaranteed in the places where they are residing, we would rather have them back into areas where their safety is guaranteed, and this is coming back as much as possible to the north.”

However, Fani-Kayode said that the herdsmen must leave not only Southern Nigeria but the Middle Belt too.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode wrote: “I support the call by the NEF and the NCG for Fulani herdsmen to leave the south. I urge them to direct them to leave the Middle Belt as well, to give up their weapons, to renounce violence, to stop the genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass murder and to tread the path of peace.”
