Three Killed by Gunmen as Cult War Resumes in Bayelsa

Three people lost their lives in Bayelsa when a group of Gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded a popular drinking spot in Bayelsa killing three people and injuring others in the process.

The attack which took place along customs road in Yenagoa claimed the life of a 50yr old in-law to a former deputy governor of Bayelsa Peremobiwei Ebebi , known as honourable as well as the jaw of a female restaurant owner, madam Odey hit me stray bullets from the attackers.

Eyewitness accounts say the gunmen arrived the spot in a Keke Napep at 8pm and shot one of the customers drinking in the midst of other people.

They thereafter started shooting indiscriminately at everyone and everything in the area injuring multiple people who scampered for safety while the attack lasted.

The attack stopped after police and state vigilante operatives responded and chased the gunmen away after a gun battle.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the state vigilante services in Bayelsa, Hon. Doubiye Alagba said useful information has been gathered on the cultists and they would soon be apprehended.

He condoled with the victims of the attack and called on cult leaders in Bayelsa to desist from carrying out such deadly attacks.

Reports in the state say the attack is connected with an ongoing cult rivalry between Icelanders and Bobos (De Bam) cult groups in Bayelsa.
