Tinubu Administration Prioritizes Digital Transformation of Nigeria’s Transport Sector

The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, announced that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is prioritizing the digital transformation of Nigeria’s transport and logistics landscape.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Nigerian Transport and Logistics Leadership Summit in Abuja, Sen. Alkali described the transport system as “the lifeblood of Nigeria’s economy,” emphasizing the government’s commitment to converting current sector challenges into opportunities.
The Minister stated that the Tinubu administration is determined to achieve this modernization through “strategic investment, sound policy reform, and active collaboration with stakeholders.” He highlighted that “tangible progress is already being recorded across multiple fronts, rail, road, pipeline transportation, and various innovations.”
These efforts, aligning with the Presidential Renewed Hope Agenda, focus on key priorities including rail sector transformation, pipeline transport modernization, and leveraging innovation and future trends to achieve more efficient service delivery consistent with international best practices.
However, Sen. Alkali stressed that the government cannot achieve this ambitious transformation alone, calling for robust support from private sector investors and industry stakeholders.
Global Trends Meet Local Realities
Earlier, the Director-General and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, set the stage by noting the rapid evolution of the global transport sector, shaped by digital tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data analytics, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Dr. Farah noted that these global dynamics intersect with Nigeria’s unique realities, such as rapid urbanization and the pressing need to diversify the economy. He stressed the imperative to “align with global best practices while developing home-grown solutions to our infrastructural, regulatory, and operational gaps.”
The summit, organized by NITT under the theme: “Building Sustainable Transport and Logistics Infrastructure in Nigeria: Current Trends and Future Insights,” brought together policymakers and industry experts to chart a clear path for a sector central to national development and global competitiveness.
