Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong has reacted to calls for him to reject his appointment as Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation for the 2023 presidential election.
Lalong spoke on Wednesday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
The Herald recalls that a group, Concern Christians on the Plateau (CCP) staged a protest on Tuesday to call on Lalong to reject the appointment.
Acting under the aegis of APC North-Central stakeholders, hundreds of APC supporters in the six north-central states, including the Federal Capital Territory also staged a peaceful protest in Abuja on Tuesday to distance themselves from Lalong over the appointment.

The latter protesters held placards with various inscriptions, including ‘On North Central Christian vice presidential candidate we stand’, Lalong is on his own! ‘Dear Asiwaju, keep your DG. Give us a Christian VP.”
The APC stakeholders marched to the Presidential Villa to submit a protest letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the party’s adoption of Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election.
In his reaction, Lalong said that as a devout Catholic, he was certain that even the pope would not frown at his decision to accept the appointment.
The Plateau governor urged Nigerians to eschew ethnic or religious sentiments, noting that he has already accepted the job and there was nothing anybody could do to dissuade him from performing his responsibilities.
Lalong added that he never lobbied to be nominated as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the APC.
